We look forward to continuing the journey of new beginnings, friendships and connections. We expect to raise the vibration and bring more educational tools to the forefront this year. Please continue to follow us and learn more. Peace and Unity for the Future. Mimi and MOE Team.

A SHAMANIC ARTS WORKSHOP:

The year’s astro stand-off (Saturn opposed Uranus) has reached an interesting turning point. Uranus (now together with Jupiter) has been urging us to burst out into our new spiritual realities. While Saturn demands we look at our ‘shit’ and clean up old messes before we move on.

Jupiter’s newly optimistic impulse is making the difference. If we’ve been doing our jobs cleaning out the karmic closets and balancing the check-books of our personal e-male-and-female, our fun and phone-y lists, something has shifted. Perhaps we don’t need to ‘heal’ the past, in that old medical-mechanical model in which you replace the spark plugs of rusted old relationships and hope the engine keeps running; but a new understanding begins to dawn that our future may lie in our past redux.

Instead of seeing the old wounds and imperfections as events visited upon us which we must overcome to go forward, we may look at them the way an artist looks at a painting which did not fully express the original intention; amend, paint over, re-express, recreate. As though our past were a learning process through which we can finally master; rebuild, re-envision, restring the plan-net in which we have captured our own consciousness.

The shamanic intuition, fully unleashed, merges past and future into present (the gift) of continual re-creation, ourselves the gods and guides of our destinies.

John Sacelli has spent 40 years exploring alternative therapies, spiritual paths, healing, and shamanism. While experiencing a series of Shamanic Visions, he met his totem Lynx (links) who introduced him to a series of inter-dimensional, alternative and past life adventures, and also to the subject of ‘Angelish, the Original Language’. John lives and works in Chicago. www.johnsacelli.org

1139 W Fulton Market Chicago, IL

A collaboration that started after meeting at a Chicago loft party, the two bring their unique experiences and influences to the table. Through collaborations over the internet, and meetups in Curitiba, Brazil and Chicago, Illinois they have recorded songs that span across age, location and genre. The results are “Mad Jazz Noodle”, a dance record that shifts between downtempo and drum n bass, and “The Wimp” a poignant tale sung over an electronic fury. These samples present a small section of the musical pallete on their upcoming album “The Many Flavors of Bittersweet”.

Ruth’s songwriting background in rock and RnB, mixed with her native Brazilian rhythms and knack for improvisation brings an exotic, jazzy vocal melody to DJ Limbs’ textured beats. It is easy to hear her fine-tuned sensibilities from many years of experience in top Chicago studios and producing bands in Brazil. On the production-side, DJ Limbs seamlessly combines influences from hiphop, jazz, funk, drum n bass and EDM creating an organic yet futuristic sound. His drive to experiment with new technology and across genres brings Ruth’s songs to new spaces.

The results are tracks that appeal to a wide-range of genre aficionados and general music lovers alike. Niches that vary from downtempo to dubstep, indie hiphop and nu-jazz find a recognizable sonic quality in the music to please their tastes.

More about Victor Carreon: www.djlimbs.com

A DJ, producer, remixer, composer, sound designer and boom operator, Victor aka DJ Limbs is an all around lover of sound. From his upbringing in Switzerland, the Philippines and the US, Limbs applies his cultural diversity to his music and is known to play hiphop, soul, house, electro, dubstep, afrobeat, reggae, rock, punk and top 40 all in the same night. He is comfortable with just vinyl, two tables and a mixer, or with Serato, Ableton Live and a couple of midi controllers. His versatility allowed him to also participate in programming sounds for the Xbox 360 game Saint’s Row, composing film soundtracks for Chicago’s film festivals and directing voice talent for electronic books. His Chicago nights: Music is the Weapon, Soul Sauce and The Booty Caboose are developing a following for filling gaps needed in the city’s nightlife.

More about Ruth Varella:

The lead singer of Butter, a native Brazilian who immigrated to the states as a child worked at Jive Records for many years next to Stephen George (aka Stevo, producer/chief audio engineer at Battery Studios in Chicago) participating in sessions with Aaliyah, R. Kelly, Backstreet Boys, Mary J. Blige and Smashing Pumpkins among others. In the 90′s, Varella formed her band Butter, playing Chicago clubs around Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, and downtown Chicago. When Battery Studios was sold in 2001, Stevo moved to NYC and opened his own production company called GTSP (Gimme That Sound Productions), and kept Varella as his assistant producer. This gave her the wings to fly to Brazil and produce bands, including the first demo of Copacabana Club, the full-length album of Anacronica, Lighthouse, and the recent vocal production for Colorphonic. Two of these bands have found early success: Copacapaba Club recently opened for Moby in Sao Paulo Brazil, while Anacronica has recently been signed by Sony.

RESTRUCTURING REALITY

A SHAMANIC ARTS WORKSHOP

Friday, June 4, 2010 7pm-10:30pm

On Wentworth from 24th St. to Cermak Rd.

The Chinatown New Year Parade celebrating the Lunar New Year, “Year of the TIGER 4708” will include marching bands, floats, lion teams, a100’ Mystical Dragon, and Miss Friendship Ambassador. Please join us to welcome the New Year as we convey “Gung Hay Fat Choi” to all in attendance.

Parade step-off time is 1:00PM though there are other activities starting as early as 11:30AM.

Gung Hay Fat Choy means “Best wishes and Congratulations. Have a prosperous and good year.”

Chinese New Year marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It is a time for family reunions, for honoring ancestors and for thanking the gods for their blessings.

Families make great preparations for this special celebration. Before the new year, families settle debts and buy new clothes. The house is cleaned and food is prepared. Homes are filled with flowers and fruit. Oranges, tangerines, and pomeloes are picked and displayed . The colors symbolize good luck and joy.

Blossoms symbolize longevity and courage. Some Chinese believe that if flowers blossom on New Year’s Day good fortune will be theirs for the next year. Candy trays of candied melon, coconut, lotus seed and watermelon seed are offered. They signify growth, good health, abundance and togetherness.

Scrolls or couplets are hung on walls or doorways to carry messages of good health, luck, long life, prosperity, and happiness. A popular one reads “May everything be according to your wishes.”

Children behave impeccably because they are warned that what happens the first day of the year may decide events for the coming year. Everyone takes care to say and do the right things and think good thoughts.

On the seventh day of the New Year everyone adds a year to their age no matter when they were born. In traditional China individual birthdays were not considered as important as this New Year”s date.

Self-Care Products. Owner and creative director of Eleanor Reily Handmade Soaps, has been using and making spa quality beauty products made from fresh, safe and organic ingredients right from the kitchen for over 30 years. She works in the Chicago region to educate and empower adults in her popular Green Spa series, using her talents and personal experiences to teach us recipes and suggestions for safe and beneficial cleansers, moisturizers and more to take care of our skin like Mother Nature intended. A popular writer and accomplished public speaker on all things Green, she has a strong and loyal following of others who advocate a more balanced, conscious and earth-friendly lifestyle. These fine soaps are handcrafted in small batches, using only the finest natural, organic (whenever possible) ingredients. Scented with essential oils, herbs and spices, they are made without chemical sudsing agents or preservatives. Only pure vegetable and mineral colors are used. These soaps are created to be mild and gentle, yet many soaps address specific skin conditions, and can be used by the most chemically-sensitive people. Eleanor Reily Handmade Soaps is dedicated to supporting an environmentally-conscious, “green” system of design, manufacture, and merchandising, utilizing locally-produced, fairly traded materials. Didier Nolet
Paintings and Pastels. An artist who was born and raised in Paris, France. He wanted to be an artist since a very young age. For many years every summer he traveled throughout France with his parents. These trips left a very strong impression on him. At the age of eighteen he entered the Beaux-Arts School in Paris to study painting. This is also something that had a strong impact on him. He finally could be himself and could do what he wanted to do the most in the world: to paint.

After he met a young American who was traveling through France, he moved to Chicago in 1979. She became his wife. This move had a strange effect on him. It brought back many of his childhood memories. These memories were so strong that he knew he had to put them on canvas. He started to paint imaginary landscapes that reflect a blending of his childhood memories (he never uses photographs or any other visual support). Over time, these paintings became more and more an expression of his state of mind, which in turn was affected directly by what happened in his life. Some paintings came out serene, others dark and somber.

More recently he started a new series of paintings (some very large) reflecting the storms of his life; big crushing waves and surf. His paintings are started with very small sketches. He then paints small oil studies and finishes with a large piece. He always allows himself the possibility of changing anything while he is working on the final painting. He does not want to simply copy the studies. Didier Nolet has been showing in Chicago and across the United States since 1980. The Chicago Cultural Center and the Rockford Art Museum in Rockford, Illinois both organized a ten-year survey of his work. He has shown in many galleries in Chicago, including Struve Gallery, Eva Cohen Gallery, Ann Nathan Gallery, Lydon FineArt, and Perimeter Gallery. He has exhibited in Laguna Beach, California at Shona Gallery, Munson Gallery in Santa Fe, MC Gallery in Minneapolis, Suzanne Brown Gallery in Scottsdale, and Marilyn Pearl Gallery in New York City.

Nolet is represented in numerous corporate art collections throughout the United States, has won many prizes and awards for his work including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, and has been the subject of dozens of newspaper and magazine articles over the years. Elizabeth Kline
Handmade Jewelry. Made for casual wear, special events, or anything in between. Created in 2007, EKD is Elizabeth’s newest creative foray. She is also an actor working in Chicago. She has been working with metals, semiprecious stones, and glass beads since 1999, when a love of jewelry became a love for design. Elizabeth expanded her interest in simple beading and wire work to include metalworking in 2002, when she began her studies at Lill Street Art Center in Chicago. This created many more possibilities to explore, be it hand-forged items, enameling, or casting molten metal. She has stayed with Lill Street to this day, where she continues to expand her horizons. Lately, the recent birth of her son has kept her away from the more hazardous lines of metalworking. The newest focus is creating sculptural designs for centerpieces of adornment – necklaces, earrings, and bracelets – with wire or fine silver, which is kiln-fired in her home studio, then “dressed up” to create the pieces you see today. For more info, visit www.eklinedesigns.com and www.eklinedesigns.etsy.com or email e-kline@sbcglobal.net 773.339.6694

Kate Rudigier
Licensed Acupuncturist, Board Certified Chinese Herbologist. Kate Rudigier is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Illinois and nationally board certified in Chinese herbology. She received her Masters in Science and Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) in 2006. Kate specializes in the treatment of pain syndromes including chronic pain, joint pain, back and shoulder pain, and migraines. Watch for her TV debut discussing the treatment and prevention of migraine headaches using acupuncture and Chinese Herbs on CLTV (coming soon!).

In addition to her acupuncture practice, Kate creates one of a kind gemstone earrings and necklaces. Gemstones were created in the earth over millions of years and with the forces of nature (the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water, wood) and therefore are infused with these positive energies. The energetic properties of gemstones can be utilized by having them around us, so why not enjoy their beauty by wearing them? Kate likes to think about combinations of gemstones, not just how they look aesthetically, but how their energies function together: the harmonizing quality of pearls with the cleansing of rose quartz or the energy tonification of rubies. It’s great fun!” For more info visit www.cloudgateacupuncture.com or email krudigier@hotmail.com 773.617.2951

Lewis

Fine Artist. While walking the streets of Chicago, Cydney looked up and noticed several plastic bags trapped in a tree. Others were floating in the air. More tumbling along the ground. At first she took them as litter, as so many do. Cydney has taken her life experience and shared it through her art. She draws her inspiration from her surroundings relying on the experiences in her daily life, her relationships with friends, family and accomplices. She hopes to create an awareness of our life in progress and the obligation to find its brilliance and truthfulness through all the anxiety and uncertainties that encircle us. Her jewelry adornments are a reminder of how we can create beauty, by transforming a useful, yet harmful material into a work of art. Art is Essential. For more info, visit <a title="Cydney M.
Michael Zieve

Paintings/Pastels/ Custom Finishes. For over twenty years Michael has been working concurrently as a fine artist, muralist and decorative painter/plasterer. As a young artist h exhibited his artwork in Chicago throughout the Midwest and in Europe. After living in Chicago for twenty years he relocated to Northwest Indiana in 1994.

In 1997 he created historical murals at the U.S. Post Office in Rolling Prairie, IN. and in 2007 he created a suite of sculptural paintings for Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. His work hangs in many Health Care Centers and private residences in the Chicago area.

For Michael, the beauty of painting resides in the meaning intrinsic to every mark, form and color relationship. These formal qualities create a nonverbal language that tells stories. The stories that emerge in his work often include figures that embody archetypal energies. Sometimes these ‘deities’ reveal themselves spontaneously in the landscape, personifications of a ‘presence’ that suffuses the natural world. In addition to his work as an artist, Michael facilitates intuitive painting workshops. For more info visit, www.michaelzieve.com and his commercial work at www.zievestudios.com or email mlzieve@yahoo.com 219.871.2094

For more info, visit www.didiernolet.com or email didiernolet@aol.com 773.470.7833

Photographer. Mimi has carried a camera and taken photos for as long as she can remember catching candid moments. She has been formally doing photography over 6 years. Mimi discovered Richard Stromberg’s classes riding her bike down Lincoln Ave. and jumped head first into photography. Mimi is drawn to photograph natural expressions, CARPE DIEM moments, as well as being able to capture the essence that others may fail to notice. She has been diverse in taking photos for photography shows, headshots, high school senior photos, weddings, documenting art shows, outdoor activities and special occasions. The pure enjoyment of photography, lighting and seeing life in a different way, keeps Mimi’s creativity and fascination alive. It is her way of journaling and embracing the visions.
