000_DSCF3018 (2)Didier Nolet Paintings and Pastels
Didier Nolet
Paintings and Pastels.
An artist who was born and raised in Paris, France. He wanted to be an artist since a very young age.  For many years every summer he traveled throughout  France with his parents.  These trips left a very strong impression on him.  At the age of eighteen he entered the Beaux-Arts School in Paris to study painting.  This is also something that had a strong impact on him.  He finally could be himself and could do what he wanted to do the most in the world: to paint.

After he met a young American who was traveling through France, he moved to Chicago in 1979.  She became his wife.  This move had a strange effect on him.  It brought back many of his childhood memories.  These memories were so strong that he knew he had to put them on canvas.  He started to paint imaginary landscapes that reflect a blending of his childhood memories (he never uses photographs or any other visual support).  Over time, these paintings became more and more an expression of his state of mind, which in turn was affected directly by what happened in his life.  Some paintings came out serene, others dark and somber.

More recently he started a new series of paintings (some very large) reflecting the storms of his life; big crushing waves and surf.  His paintings are started with very small sketches.  He then paints small oil studies and finishes with a large piece.  He always allows himself the possibility of changing anything while he is working on the final painting.  He does not want to simply copy the studies.  Didier Nolet has been showing in Chicago and across the United States since 1980.  The Chicago Cultural Center and the Rockford Art Museum in Rockford, Illinois both organized a ten-year survey of his work.  He has shown in many galleries in Chicago,  including Struve Gallery, Eva Cohen Gallery, Ann Nathan Gallery, Lydon FineArt, and  Perimeter Gallery.  He has exhibited in Laguna Beach, California at Shona Gallery, Munson Gallery in Santa Fe, MC Gallery in Minneapolis, Suzanne Brown Gallery in Scottsdale, and  Marilyn Pearl Gallery in New York City.

Nolet is represented in numerous corporate art collections throughout the United States, has won many prizes and awards for his work including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, and has been the subject of dozens of newspaper and magazine articles over the years. Elizabeth KlineElizabeth Kline Designs
Elizabeth Kline
Handmade Jewelry.
Made for casual wear, special events, or anything in between. Created in 2007, EKD is Elizabeth’s newest creative foray.  She is also an actor working in Chicago. She has been working with metals, semiprecious stones, and glass beads since 1999, when a love of jewelry became a love for design. Elizabeth expanded her interest in simple beading and wire work to include metalworking in 2002, when she began her studies at Lill Street Art Center in Chicago. This created many more possibilities to explore, be it hand-forged items, enameling, or casting molten metal. She has stayed with Lill Street to this day, where she continues to expand her horizons. Lately, the recent birth of her son has kept her away from the more hazardous lines of metalworking.  The newest focus is creating sculptural designs for centerpieces of adornment – necklaces, earrings, and bracelets – with wire or fine silver, which is kiln-fired in her home studio, then “dressed up” to create the pieces you see today.  For more info, visit www.eklinedesigns.com and www.eklinedesigns.etsy.com or email e-kline@sbcglobal.net 773.339.6694

Licensed Acupuncturist, Board Certified Chinese Herbologist.
Kate Rudigier is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Illinois and nationally board certified in Chinese herbology.  She received her Masters in Science and Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) in 2006.  Kate specializes in the treatment of pain syndromes including chronic pain, joint pain, back and shoulder pain, and migraines.  Watch for her TV debut discussing the treatment and prevention of migraine headaches using acupuncture and Chinese Herbs on CLTV (coming soon!).

In addition to her acupuncture practice, Kate creates one of a kind gemstone earrings and necklaces.  Gemstones were created in the earth over millions of years and with the forces of nature (the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water, wood) and therefore are infused with these positive energies.  The energetic properties of gemstones can be utilized by having them around us, so why not enjoy their beauty by wearing them?  Kate likes to think about combinations of gemstones, not just how they look aesthetically, but how their energies function together: the harmonizing quality of pearls with the cleansing of rose quartz or the energy tonification of rubies.  It’s great fun!”  For more info visit www.cloudgateacupuncture.com or email krudigier@hotmail.com 773.617.2951

Fine Artist. While walking the streets of Chicago, Cydney looked up and noticed several plastic bags trapped in a tree.  Others were floating in the air.  More tumbling along the ground.  At first she took them as litter, as so many do.  Cydney has taken her life experience and shared it through her art.  She draws her inspiration from her surroundings relying on the experiences in her daily life, her relationships with friends, family and accomplices.  She hopes to create an awareness of our life in progress and the obligation to find its brilliance and truthfulness through all the anxiety and uncertainties that encircle us. Her jewelry adornments are a reminder of how we can create  beauty, by transforming a useful, yet harmful material into a work of art. Zieve Studios

Michael Zieve

Paintings/Pastels/ Custom Finishes. For over twenty years Michael has been working concurrently as a fine artist, muralist and decorative painter/plasterer. As a young artist h exhibited his artwork in Chicago throughout the Midwest and in Europe. After living in Chicago for twenty years he relocated to Northwest Indiana in 1994.

In 1997 he created historical murals at the U.S. Post Office in Rolling Prairie, IN. and in 2007 he created a suite of sculptural paintings for Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. His work hangs in many Health Care Centers and private residences in the Chicago area.

For Michael, the beauty of painting resides in the meaning intrinsic to every mark, form and color relationship. These formal qualities create a nonverbal language that tells stories. The stories that emerge in his work often include figures that embody archetypal energies.  Sometimes these ‘deities’ reveal themselves spontaneously in the landscape, personifications of a ‘presence’ that suffuses the natural world.  In addition to his work as an artist, Michael facilitates intuitive painting workshops.  For more info visit,  www.michaelzieve.com and his commercial work at www.zievestudios.com or email mlzieve@yahoo.com 219.871.2094

PARK(ing) Day: Friday 9-18-09

Thursday, September 17, 2009 posted by jenberman 5:25 pm

Join MOE & moss at PARK(ing) Day, at the Bicycle Comfort Station at 3522 North Southport Avenue (in front of Southport Grocery) on Friday, September 18, 2009 from 9am-6pm.

PARK(ing) Day (more info here) is a one-day, global exploration of the creative potential of streets that celebrates urban parks and promotes the need for more parks by converting public parking spots into temporary parks for a day—a ‘reimagining’ of a public space. Moss Design’s Matt Nardella recently appeared on Chicago Public Radio’s 848, to talk about PARK(ing) day. Listen here!

With a higher percentage of street space currently allocated to vehicles and gas stations, and only a fraction allocated to the public realm, the bike comfort station is the bicyclist’s non-gas, refueling station.

Moss, in collaboration with Strand Design will lease two street-side parking spaces for the day and convert them into a bike and pedestrian friendly oasis. The oasis will be complete with trees, donated by Grand Street Gardens, and relaxation stations where weary bikers can kick-back and enjoy a cold beverage, provided by Southport Grocery, or re-fuel with grilled “potato power packs”; all part of the comfort station.

MOE Director Mimi Clayton will offer chair massage at the Bicycle Comfort Station from 2-6pm. Mimi has been a bodywork professional for 17 years and is the owner of a 10 year old clinical massage therapy practice. She has taught and clinically supervised student teaching at the Soma Institute and has worked in various settings including physical therapy center, fitness clubs, corporate chair massage and a spa. Mimi is also a certified Athletic Trainer and her clients include elite marathoners and triathletes. Mimi incorporates neuromuscular, deep tissue, sports, thai yoga, reflexology and energy work in her treatments to customize each client’s treatment.

Moss is also the host of MOE’s upcoming upcoming benefit party for Teen Living and the Ravenswood Art Walk. Come meet the crew early, or for more info, please visit the Teen Living Benefit page on this site.

Staying true to his name, DJ limbs is all about reaching out. Broadening his network and expanding the horizons in the world of sound, music and good vibrations is something that comes naturally to this DJ/producer.  His collaborations span across the world from Brazil to Switzerland, the Philippines and back to his current home base Chicago.  Known by his friends and family as Victor Carreon, the 24 year old was born in the west suburbs of Illinois listening to 80s pop tunes his sisters played and parents’ oldies. At 8, he moved to Geneva, Switzerland where he discovered his love for hiphop, digging deeper into the underground movement and discovering its roots in funk and soul.  Inspired by close family friends, DJs Arch D-lux and DJ Izreal, he began teaching himself to spin and scratch records in 1999. At 15 he moved to Manila, Philippines, where he continued to develop his style.  He returned state-side in 2002 to attend the University in Champaign-Urbana, IL.  In college as the President of the local Hip-Hop Congress chapter, he helped organize HipHop Awareness Week which, with Michael Crammond launched IL Breaks, a staple midwest b-boy battle still going strong today. He also shared his mixing and scratching skills at workshops for any student looking to learn, and held sessions at the local middle school, inspiring the next generation of deejays. Now, he resides in Uptown, Chicago.  His diverse upbringing and environment has helped shape the unique subtleties of his sound and broad network. He has recently launched an event series called “Music is the Weapon” that brings non-profit organizations together to raise funds, awareness and build connections. He continues to DJ at loft/ house parties, galleries, clubs/lounges, festivals, b-boy battles, weddings and is currently working on hosting workshops to teach DJing and music production.  His production credits range from commercial sound design for video games and children’s publications, to independent film soundtracks and beats for emcees and vocalists.  For more info, visit www.linkedin.com/in/victorcarreon www.myspace.com/djlimbs
