HOST AN EXCHANGE STUDENT
Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) invites you and your family to join thousands of other families across the U.S. who enjoy the enriching and rewarding experience of becoming a host family!
Your family can make a difference by hosting an exchange student, making the lifelong dream of an international student come true, and yes, contributing in a small, but significant way, to global peace and understanding.
Why Host an Exchange Student?
Each year, CCI provides over 1000 exchange students the opportunity to live with American families across the U.S., from a few weeks in the summer, up to a 10-month academic high school year.
Find out why hosting a CCI exchange student will make a difference!
With volunteer host families in every state, CCI can provide these young ambassadors a wide range of landscapes, climates, activities and lifestyles. CCI host families represent the diversity of YES Program Students and Hosts VideoAmerican culture from varied economic, religious and racial backgrounds, including couples without children, singles and single parents, and empty-nesters.
Host families treat the exchange student like a member of the family, providing open communication, encouragement, advice and sound parenting. CCI exchange students come with their own spending money and have accident and health insurance coverage during their stay. Families are expected to provide the exchange student with his/her own room or a separate bed (if they share a room with a host sibling of similar age and same gender); daily meals with the family; and some local transportation. While CCI does not compensate host families, the Internal Revenue Service has authorized families to claim a $50 per month charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns.
CCI has a strong and dedicated network of local Area Representatives and Regional Directors working with families, students and schools across the United States by:
* Promoting the program in the local community and schools CCI host families
* Matching students and families with similar interests
* Providing student and family orientation and counseling
* Providing 24 hour support and advice

CALL FOR RAW STREET GALLERY ARTISTS: Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3
The Ravenswood Art Walk introduces this year an outdoor STREET GALLERY of original art created on large wood panels by area artists. This outdoor activity area includes several dynamic art components and is an October, Chicago Artists Month 2010 event reflecting the Artists Month theme of “The City as Studio.”
Some quick background: In 2009 the 8th annual Art Walk attracted 175 artists who presented their work to thousands of visitors and art collectors. These artists presented artwork in their Ravenswood district studios and, for non-studio artists, inside the historic buildings along the Ravenswood corridor. Artists city-wide participated in the two day event, held the first weekend in October. RAW (Ravenswood Art Walk) has become a much anticipated Oct. Art Month kick-off event in Chicago.
In 2010 the Ravenswood Art Walk’s STREET GALLERY will present work by 12 individual artists and four (4) groups creating graffiti art. The 12 individual artists will each paint a 4×6 foot wood panel in advance of the Art Walk to be displayed as a featured finished-work in the Street Gallery. The four graffiti artists groups will produce their work during the two-day event on 6×8 foot wood panels.
If you wish to participate as an individual artist and prepare in advance of RAW 2010 a 4×6 foot ART PANEL for the Street Gallery, please contact Dennis A. Jose via email at dajstudio@aol.com asap for further application details.
The Ravenswood Art Walk website address is: www.RavenswoodArtWalk.org – Plan to check the site for event info and mark your calendar and attend the RAW 2010 events, Oct. 2 and 3.
Mimi has become the Performance Coordinator for RAW 2010. Music will be incorporated into RAW at various locations this year. If anyone is interested, please email info@mimisorganicexchange.com or call her at 773.991.3835. More info will follow.
Don’t forget to stop by the Metropolitan Brewery at 5121 N. Ravenswood for Sustainable Art, Beer, Music and lectures. We are gearing up for a good time.
